IN 2008 and shortly before the arrest of Rod Blagojevich and during the time we elected our first Black President, Illinois had an opportunity to vote in favor of a constitutional convention. Such a referendum is voted on every 20 years and the next vote is in 2028.

One of our former Governors - George Ryan a convicted felon sadly - is calling for a constitution convention. This is the process according to the Illinois constitution (article XIV). In light of this budget stalemate between the General Assembly and the current Governor Bruce Rauner we need a con-con more than ever.

UGH!!!! MSNBC Contributor: Hillary Lost the Election in Part Because Obama is Black
Wendy Sherman told the audience at the Aspen Ideas Festival, “There is no doubt that we just had eight years of an African-American president is not a factor in all that we are experiencing today.”

“When we make a social change, when we make a decision to do something we have never done before, we then take two steps backwards at least.”

“I believe in my bones, among the list, I agree with the list that Sam put out about why Hillary lost but I would add to that it was pretty hard to elect a woman after you’ve elected the first African-American president.”
They need to stop discussing identity politics. Hillary didn't lose because Obama was Black. There wasn't much Obama could do to help her aside from changing his ethnicity. The obvious answer was that Hillary didn't campaign in Wisconsin and most of the country didn't like her.

And Newsalert has video of this if you want to watch.
IS THE CITY OF CHICAGO ok with dead bodies in the alley?

Really, blogger JP Paulus at The Sixth Ward is overstating the topic. Of course that's not to say it's not important to consider that a dead kitten is laying in an alley attracting insects and emitting a decomposing smell until the city is ready to clear it out.

BTW, the pic is likely going to shock you.
In the months since Donald Trump became America's 45th president, the unemployment rate among black people has hit the lowest number since 2000.

In February, the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) reported the black unemployment rate at 8.1, but the number dropped to 8.0 in March, 7.9 in April, and 7.5 in May.

During most of Barack Obama's presidency, black unemployment was in double digits, hitting a high mark of 16.8 in March 2010. Between July 2008 (during the financial crisis) and February 2015, the rate remained above 10 percent.

Black unemployment has not been this low since December 2000, when 7.4 percent of African-Americans looking for work were unable to find it.

JOHN STOSSSEL: Failure of American schools to improve not just about money
Why haven’t American schools improved? The education establishment says, “We don’t have enough money!” But American schools spend more per student than other countries. Spending tripled during Coulson’s lifetime and class sizes dropped. But test scores stay flat.

“Schools adopted all sorts of new technologies, from projectors to personal computers to ‘smart’ whiteboards,” says Coulson. “None of these inventions improved outcomes … (E)ducational quality has been stuck in the era of disco and leisure suits for 40 years, while the rest of the world has passed it by.”

The main reason for that is that most schools are controlled by government. Government is a monopoly, and monopolies resist change.
And America isn't yet ready to break up the education monopoly.

BLAVITY: Is California A Sunken Place For Black People?

When a Black person finally reaches that California dream what do they find:
California’s stance on what I always perceived to be progressive multiracial liberalism has limits that are quietly anti-black and perplexing. I’ve found that many black people actively subdue their black identity and highlight their other racial or cultural identities instead. A black coworker of mine informed me that their 10-year-old child just found out that they were black. When I asked how that was possible, I was told that California’s education system stresses multicultural colorblindness, to the extent that it’s completely normal for a black child not to “see” their own race.
Hmmmmm, deny part of who they are? Not a good lesson and certainly sets them up for disappointment when someone points out what they are.

THE SIXTH WARD: A further continuation on the decline of Black Chicago.
YES! Thank you Stevie Wonder! "Black People Can’t Kill Each Other And Then Say ‘Black Lives Matter’"
“It is in your hands to stop all the killing and all the shooting wherever it might be. Because you cannot say black lives matter and then kill yourselves,” Wonder told those gathered at the North Minneapolis Peace Conference.
“Because you know we’ve mattered long before it was said, but the way we show that we matter, the way that we show all the various people of color matter is by loving each other and doing something about it. Not just talking about it, not just waiting to see the media and press come when there’s a horrible thing,” Wonder continued.
“The first thing you must do is stop believing the fallacy of you not being important,” Wonder said. “Because it is completely unacceptable for one to hate themselves so much that anyone that looks like you, you want to kill.”

DOWN THERE IN Georgia we had a special congressional election, the Republican won.

I NOW KNOW A LOT MORE ABOUT THE case of Dennis Hastert. Hastert was an Illinois congressman who became the longest serving speaker of the house from 1999 to 2007 and years after the end of his political career was taken down for structuring his cash withdrawals. And it was in connection with some alleged sexual abuse as a former high school teacher.

So this article discusses the case and the media's response to it. Especially the Chicago Tribune which was to create a narrative that ends the story. The ending leaves any further questions unanswered. Now I have one, who was the person that attempted to extort Hastert for large sums of money.

What a nasty, gross, and mysterious story.

IN THE GRAND SCHEME OF THINGS, what did the ascension of Barack Obama to the Presidency in 2008 mean for Black America. Well judging by the proliferation of Black public officials across the country from roughly the 1960s to now it hasn't resulted in any substantial gains.

Here in Chicago one issue still being haggled over in the community, jobs. Mainly jobs for public projects that take place in the community. Not only Black-owned firms getting the business and scoring a bid, but Black-owned businesses who hire other Blacks to uplift the community.

Granted the Irish-American experience is much different than the Black-American experience, I never thought the Irish as not doing very well economically.

RARELY DO I SPEAK NEGATIVELY HERE about any movies. Basically a lot of movies I've seen this year have largely been forgettable however they were still worthwhile entertainment after a hard day at work. Especially if I worked a morning shift.

Went to see the Tupac biopic All Eyez On Me and it was a great trip down memory lane. I came of age during the 1990s and although not a huge fan of gangster rap - which Tupac often performed - I recognize the significance of the music for that time. If only the young people has such impactful music on their smartphones today.

Regardless, it's hard for me to call this a good movie. Perhaps it's a good look at a rapper who was taken from us way too soon - he'd have been 46 now. I can understand him now more than I had when he passed away. If only I had the reach he did.

BTW, let me share one track with you from Tupac. [VIDEO]

OVER AT INSTAPUNDIT we see a video of those wild Evergreen State College activist opposing Christian fundamentalist. And as we've seen over the past few weeks with that august institution of higher learning they're not open to different points of view. [VIDEO]
What an unpleasant piece of business! So the progressives err regressives don't want Christians preaching on their campus. The Christians conducted themselves well and yet the Christians are Nazis and intolerant.

BTW, I have to share this since I found it on YouTube. There are a group of students at Evergreen walking around with baseball bats. This person is one of them (I say person to avoid using the wrong pro-noun). He's one of the leaders in running Bret Weinstein a professor off campus and likely part of the problem there. [VIDEO]

THE MAN WHO shot and wounded Congressman Scalise and two US Capitol Police Officers is profiled at the Daily Mail.
The man who shot up a congressional baseball practice on Wednesday was a regular at a sports bar in Alexandria where he 'creeped out' the female bartenders while he drank by himself watching golf, staffers at the restaurant told the

James Hodgkinson, 66, died from gun injuries on Wednesday hours after he opened fire on a group of Republican congressmen and their aides who were practicing for a congressional baseball game in the Washington, D.C. suburb. Steve Scalise, the third-most senior House Republican, and four others were injured.

Scalise is critically-ill after surgery on the wound to his hip while the other three wounded - two of them the hero Capitol Hill Police officers who ended Hodgkinson's shooting spree. Congressional staffer Zachary Barth and lobbyist Matt Mika were both shot but are expected to recover.
I will say again that we're living in truly troubled times.

BUSINESS INSIDER: How the 'Wonder Woman' box office gross compares to other superhero movies
"Wonder Woman" is getting a lot of praiseafter its opening weekend, and it deserves it. It's given a much-needed boost to the DC Extended Universe, with reviews that are much better than those for 2016's disappointing "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice" and "Suicide Squad."

But it also performed well compared to other superhero films outside of the DC Universe. While the opening weekend domestic box office numbers (according to Box Office Mojo) didn't surpass massive hits like "The Avengers" (2012), "The Dark Knight" (2008), or "Deadpool" (2016), the movie's gross did beat "Captain America: The First Avenger" (2011), "Iron Man" (2008), both "Thor" movies, and even "Guardians of the Galaxy" (2014).
IN 2017, WE'RE STILL talking about those Rod Blagojevich tapes. During that period of time when he had been cursing the people of Illinois and trying to sell a US Senate seat - that was once held by Barack Obama. Now it's used in the IL gubernatorial campaign Chris Kennedy is talking about his opponent JB Pritzker who was apparently on those tapes back then speaking with the Ousted governor of Illinois.

THE IDEA OF THIS IS JUST GOOFY: Knowingly exposing others to HIV should no longer be a felony, California Senate says
The state Senate on Wednesday voted to no longer make it a felony for someone infected with HIV to knowingly expose others to the disease by having unprotected sex without telling his or her partner about the infection.

The crime would be downgraded to a misdemeanor, and the bill would also apply to people who donate blood or semen without telling the blood or semen bank that they have acquired immunodeficiency syndrome, or AIDS, or have tested positive for human immunodeficiency virus, or HIV, the precursor to AIDS.

The measure, which next goes to the Assembly for consideration, was introduced by Sen. Scott Wiener (D-San Francisco), who said it is unfair to make HIV/AIDS the only communicable disease given such harsh treatment by prosecutors.

“These laws are irrational and discriminatory,” Wiener told the Senate, adding that the current felony status is “creating an incentive not to be tested, because if you don’t know your status you can’t be guilty of a felony.”
While HIV is bascially treatable, this is still a bad idea.
